Cordiality and Respect

I'd like to paraphrase a few things I've read on the ol' Nternets today.

Since when did "being cordial" require you to listen to someone's bullshit and allow them to continue?

Since when did "being respectful" mean that you can't apply the same scrutiny to said bullshit that you would to other beliefs?

  1. Accusing your opponent of not being cordial or respectful is just another way of saying "I haven't got a fucking clue how to answer you so I'll say this and hope no-one notices."

  2. And, on the other hand, accusing your ostensible ally of not being cordial and respectful is just another way of saying "You need to do things the way I want you to do them."

  3. I sometimes try to politely back out of discussions involving people spouting nonsense. If they persist on spouting this nonsense, I'll either leave the conversation or apply the same scrutiny to their bullshit that I do my own beliefs.

    Isn't that being respectful?
